Top Ten Ways You Can Reduce Healthcare Costs for You and the Company
Don’t Pay More for Medical Coverage Than You Need – Did you pay for more medical coverage than you needed in 2006? Did you meet your deductible in 2006? Use the Coverage Advisor decision support tool hereto choose the medical plan that is most cost-effective for your needs, factoring in anticipated out-of-pocket costs vs. premium cost.
Whenever Possible, Use Generic Drugs – When you use generic drugs, it costs everyone less money, especially you, because you’ll pay the lowest co-pay for a generic. Combine the use of generic drugs with mail service utilization, and there is no co-pay! Remember, Caremark only utilizes A or AB rated generics, which have the same quality, strength, purity, and stability as brand name medications. In addition, the FDA requires that these generic products must contain the same active ingredients as the original brand and produce the same effects in the body.
Take a Health Risk Assessment (HRA) – Found here, this 20-minute confidential personal health survey will help you identify opportunities to improve your health. When your health improves, your medical expenses decrease. So not only do you feel better, you spend less!
Get Preventative Care – Early detection can not only save you money–it can save your life! In addition to scheduling your annual physicals and age-related “milestone” screenings, make sure you conduct self-check exams on a regular basis.
Use In-Network Providers – By utilizing physicians and hospitals that are in your plan’s network, you can realize significant savings. Visit the Coventry provider directory tool at www.mycoventryhealth.com(Client ID: CMB).
Use Coventry’s Lab Savings Program – While you are still free to choose any network lab facility you prefer, you’ll pay $0 when you receive eligible lab services at a Quest Diagnostics facility. That means no out-of-pocket expenses— no co-payments, no deductibles, no co-insurance. Caremark pays the entire cost for you, and best of all, there are no forms to complete!
Utilize the Coventry Nurses’ Hotline – Get advice from a licensed healthcare professional on how to deal with urgent medical situations. Without question, there are times that seeking care immediately is the best course of action. For those times when you’re not sure what type of care you need, though, try using the Nurses Hotline for assistance, available 365/24/7 toll-free at 1-800-272-8931.
Utilize our Company’s Disease Management Program, AccordantCareTM – These programs offer comprehensive support to you and your doctor through education, individualized coaching, and ongoing monitoring of your health by trained clinical educators. These programs are designed to enhance your quality of life by improving your health and increasing your energy and productivity. By adhering to your individual disease management program, you can reduce the amount of money you spend on non-routine doctor visits and hospitalizations. For additional
information on our disease management program, Accordant Health Services (formerly CarePatterns), see the 2007 Benefits Guide online here.
Whenever Possible, Use An In-Network Urgent Care Center, Instead of the Emergency Room

When you or a member of your family need medical care in the evening or on the weekend, consider the following:

In-network Urgent Care Centers should be used to treat medical emergencies that are not life threatening, but require immediate care. The typical cost to participants enrolled in the Medical PlanOption #2 for an Urgent Care Center visit is: $50 co-pay.
Emergency rooms are for serious, life threatening situations. The typical cost to participants enrolled in the Medical Plan Option #2 for a non-admission Emergency Room visit is: $100 per occurrence charge, plus 10% of the charges.
